Behavior and Discipline Management Policy
For Martial Arts Classes, After-School Programs & Seasonal Camps
At American Family Center, we’re committed to helping students grow through discipline, respect, and personal development. Whether they’re on the mat, at our after-school program, or enjoying a seasonal camp, our goal is to create a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
What We Expect from Students
Across all programs, we expect students to:
• Show respect for instructors, staff, peers, and school property
• Follow directions promptly
• Maintain self-control during all activities
• Use positive language and behavior
• Represent the core values of martial arts—respect, responsibility, perseverance, and integrity
How We Manage Behavior
We use a positive, structured approach that helps students learn from their choices without shame or punishment.
-
Verbal Reminder
A clear, respectful reminder of expected behavior and why it matters. -
Redirective Physical Activity (Martial Arts Classes)
Students may complete extra drills or stances to refocus their energy and reinforce discipline. These activities are used as a traditional martial arts tool—not as punishment. -
Behavior Reset Break
If needed, students may take a short break from the group to reset. Instructors will check in before they rejoin. -
Loss of Privileges (After-School & Camps)
In non-class settings, students may temporarily lose certain activities (e.g., games or free time) to help reinforce responsibility. -
Incident Reports
If a student shows:
• Aggression or unsafe behavior
• Repeated defiance or disruption
• Serious disrespect toward others
…we document the situation in an incident report and follow up with families directly. -
Parent Collaboration
If issues persist, we’ll work with parents/guardians to create a Behavior Support Plan focused on clear expectations and student growth.
What We Don’t Do
• No physical punishment
• No public shaming
• No embarrassment or intimidation
We always treat students with dignity and respect—even when helping them learn from mistakes.
Program-Specific Notes
Martial Arts Classes
Physical redirection is used constructively. Students are taught to reset through movement and mental focus.
After-School Program
Behavior is managed through structured transitions, clear expectations, and consistent staff responses.
Seasonal Camps
In high-energy environments, we emphasize teamwork, kindness, and proactive supervision to prevent issues before they arise.
Our Commitment
We’re here to help every student become:
• More focused
• More confident
• More respectful
Through martial arts and structured programming, we support students in becoming their best selves—on and off the mat.
